Tax Collection Schedule

In Schoharie County, real property tax bills are sent out according to the following schedule:

Town and County Tax Bills are sent out on January 1st of every year. They are payable to the town tax collector with out penalty until January 31st. After that date, there will be an interest charge added of 1% per month. The local collector’s warrant expires in late May or early June, and after that date you will have to pay the taxes to the County Treasurer’s Office because the local collector will no longer be able to accept your payments.

Village Tax Bills including any re-levied water or sewer charges are sent out on June 1st of each year (Except for the villages of Cobleskill, Middleburgh and Schoharie which issue bills on January 1st). These are payable to the local Village Clerk until October 31st (or when the collector’s warrant expires) and are subject to monthly interest charges. After that date, the village taxes may be paid to the Treasurer’s Office through November 30th. If the village taxes remain unpaid after November 30th, a penalty will be added and the entire amount will be re-levied (or added) to the Town and County Tax Bill which comes out in January.

School Tax Bill are sent out on September 1st. These taxes are payable to your local school tax collector during the months of September and October, or until the collector’s warrant expires. After the warrant expiration date, school taxes may be paid to the Treasurer’s Office through November 30th. If the school taxes remain unpaid after November 30th, a penalty will be added and the entire amount will be re-levied onto the Town and County Tax Bill which comes out in January.

Most municipalities (towns and villages) have a link on their websites to a Property Tax Inquiry application. Most of the links are on the Collector’s or the Clerk’s page.

Current and Historical Tax Information

Current tax bill and payment information is available from the collector or may be found along with historical information through the Real Property Search. The majority of municipalities use the County’s web based tax collection system and keep payment information up to date during the warrant period. Delinquent information and tax search certificates are available through the Treasurers Office.
