LOCAL FLOODPLAIN ADMINISTRATORS
Schoharie County is similar to most other counties in NYS in that the Floodplain Administer for local towns & villages is the Building Code Enforcement Official. Please contact your local Floodplain Administrator to discuss any questions you may have about development in a floodplain, elevation certificates, hazard mitigation projects, or other floodplain related information.

SCHOHARIE COUNTY OUTDOOR FLOOD WARNING SYSTEM
In 2007, Schoharie County installed twenty (20) outdoor warning sirens along the Schoharie Creek to be used in High Water Emergencies. The locations were selected to adequately alert the most people in the Schoharie Creek corridor as possible.

The sirens are installed on 50 foot wood utility poles with rotating sirens on top that are remotely activated during major flood or dam failure. Sirens at Fire Departments locations and one at SR-30 in Blenheim are also used for fire alarms. Three (3) sirens located near campgrounds are capable of announcing voice warnings.

The Outdoor Warning System is tested each Wednesday. An audible test is conducted on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at/around 12:30pm, while the remaining weekly tests are silent.

Click on the Siren Location to view general aerial maps of the siren locations.
